Re: Flickr and Pixsy

Thanks Steve. I found Cory Doctorrow's articles about Pixsy some time ago; they gave me courage to fight this. Anyone reading this in a similar position, I would strongly recommend reading his articles. https://pluralistic.net/2022/01/31/heel-turn/#pixsy https://pluralistic.net/2022/01/24/a-bug-in-e...

Re: Pixsy demanding I pay a fee for unauthorised use of an image. Urgently need help.

Question for Steve, Andy or anyone who knows Pixsy. Do you think it's possible for Pixsy to be going after 'infringements' without the knowledge of the actual photographer? I mean maybe they signed up for it ages ago. I ask because on a discussion elsewhere re PicRights the author seemed to have det...

Re: Flickr and Pixsy

Hi Steve

Did you actually set up a Pixsy account to see if they discourage takedown notices?

When I’ve looked at reviews and other articles it suggests it’s there as an option which the account holder can opt for or not. Obviously in our cases, not!

I'm interested in this idea of counter-suing Pixsy - have you heard of anyone who's done that?

Re: Flickr and Pixsy

I've been wondering whether to report the photographer involved in my colleague's case. He's got a big presence on Flickr with lots of photos with CC2 and CC3 and specific attribution requirements. Not a crime, of course, but he's named in several cases on forums and in Wikipedia in connection with ...

Flickr and Pixsy

This is from last April but may be relevant to people dealing with Pixsy and similar organisations. https://doctorow.medium.com/flickr-to-copyleft-trolls-drop-dead-a579dd16662d Flickr used to give a subscription to Pixsy as part of its higher-tier membership, with the aim that photographers would ha...

Re: IPO Mediation

That's fair, Andy, thank you. We've benefitted a lot from the previous discussions here, enough to understand that there is no financial loss where a photo is used via CC3 with no attribution, where the photo is available only through CC3, on more than one site. I think there is also some difficulty...

Re: IPO Mediation

Thanks Andy My colleague be happy to pay for an hour or two if it led to Pixsy's huge claim being dropped. The number of times I've seen the photographer's name come up in Pixsy discussions online suggests to me that it might be his business model to offer images in CC3 then chase up with Pixsy or o...

IPO Mediation

Hi

Are you aware of anyone who's used the IPO mediation service (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/intellectua ... on-session) in relation to a claim from 'ambulance chaser' companies like Pixsy and others? If so did it lead to a settlement?

Re: Pixsy demanding I pay a fee for unauthorised use of an image. Urgently need help.

Hi I just wanted to say how useful Steve's story is to others threatened by Pixsy, so I'd encourage him to keep us updated on his progress, particularly whether he decided to pay them or let it go further. A colleague has a very similar story, CC2 attribution. Although Pixsy name the photographer (a...
