Hi les,
Based on the details you have given I think you are wise to be cautious, but if it is a scam, it's not one I am aware of.
I would have thought the starting point is to examine you facebook page for anything which might be Channel4 material. Obviously if you are then sure there isn't ...

Re: Can I use chocolate names in a poem?
There would be no infringement of copyright if you photographed or draw a picture of a chocolate bar and used it in conjunction with your poem. It is also most unlikely that there would be any infringement of trade marks unless you promoted or advertised your poems using the names or logos of a ...

Re: PA Media/time limit for copyright infringement claims
sandman,
Just to jump in ahead of snapperman's reply, only the copyright owner can bring a claim to court, so even if the information was available, the case details would not contain 'PicRights' or 'Pixsy' etc, only the name of the photographer. There may well be photographers who use these ...

Re: PA Media/time limit for copyright infringement claims
Thanks for the update snapperman. I assume that the Jonathan Webb case which you cited was in the IPEC multi-track, not small claims track, since damages claims in the latter are capped at £10,000.

Re: PA Media/time limit for copyright infringement claims
Good try, but no. Assuming that they are fundamentally the same image then copyright exists within the substantial part of both images. I imagine that one crop is the master image and the other crop contains less pictorial information than the full original. For a look at what 'substantial part ...

Re: PA Media/time limit for copyright infringement claims
Hi sandman and welcome,
Irrespective of whether the limitation period starts when the image is first published without permission, or when the unauthorised use of it is 'discovered' by the copyright owner, taking the image down definitiely marks an end to the infringement. If you fail to take down ...

Re: Copyright Registration certificate for book
Hi gle.
These publishers seem a bit knuckleheaded if they are insisting on some kind of copyright registration - which is not even needed in the USA unless you wanted to sue someone and claim statutory damages*. The Berne Convention, to which both the USA and the UK are signatories, stipulates that ...

Re: art works in public domain
I tend to avoid the term public domain because it is so misunderstood. I prefer 'out of copyright' as it is more specific.
While the old art works on the wrapping paper may themselves be out of copyright, it is just possible that the arrangement of the individual images on the paper constitutes a ...

Hi amanidoarthy and welcome
If the books from which the illustrations were taken are out of copyright beccause the author or artist died more than 70 yearrs ago, then there would be no infringement of copyright by a trader producing facsimiles. Indeed there is a burgeoning trade in print-on-demand ...

Hi Andy and welcome to the forum,
With the headlines, you are probably on reasonably strong ground, provided that the text is under, say, ten words. This assessment is based on avery well-known (in legal and journalistic circles at least) legal case called Infopaq .

As someone whose wardrobe contains mainly shabby without any chic, I had to Google Magnolia Pearl to find out what they were all about.
I have to confess that I don't understand which elements of their clothing constitute the 'added' part which I would associate with the term appliqué ...

Re: Yugoslavian monument
Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Croatia are both signatories to the Berne Convention, as is the UK, so that means we have to give any copyright works made in either of those two states the equivalent protection that we do to works created here.

Re: International copyright law question
As you may be aware the distinction between published and unpublished works is a throwback to earlier copyright legislation and is particularly peculiar to UK law. Ultimately it dates back to the very first Copyright Act of 1709 which was primarily intended to protect booksellers rather than authors ...

Hi Derek and welcome.
As SQL is a programming language and not a discrete computer program it is not subject to copyright per se (just like ordinary languages). And as you state there are several proprietary implementations of the language, such as MySQL and this is where care is needed. You would ...
