Assignment of PRS writer share to company
I'm aware that PRS do not allow any publisher to claim more than 50% of a work. So what I'm wondering is that if there is a publisher claiming 50%, is it possible for the writer to assign ownership of their oewn 50% share to a limited company that is not a publisher, merely a company that owns that ...

Copyright services legit?
I noticed a couple of sites offering copyright registration services. https://www.copyrightservice.co.uk/register/ http://www.copyright.co.uk/ Does registering music tracks with them actually give you any legal proof of copyright? My reason for asking is that up until now all my tracks have been ...

Wildcard in Trademark name
This is kind of related to an earlier question I had, but after some discussions with IPO I am still a bit confused. Is it possible to have a trademark that would cover a series of pubications each of which uses the trademark name plus an extra work for the specific context. I don't want to disclose ...

1. For a singer to jot down (on the back of an envelope) the lyrics to a song which they own legally (e.g. on a purchased CD) so they can sing it with a band (at a properly licensed venue) Come to think of it not a good example if that is for commercial use. This is a better example: For somoeone ...

Scanning my own sheet music for my own use on a tablet
I have legally purchased sheet music. I was wondering if A. I can legally scan it to put a digital version on my tablet (for my own private use) B. If so, and the app can play the sheet music as a MIDI file, is this also legal? (again not for public performance or sharing) Thanks! I'm thinking ...

Patent - extend territory or re-apply?
I am considering buying a small business which is for sale. The assets include a UK patent, but in order to make this business profitable and justify my investment, the patent would need to cover the USA. Does this mean I have to apply from scratch for the patent in the USA, submit designs etc. and ...

MCPS can grant you a licence for up to 250 30" clips. This costs £60 per year. This is for the compositions, unfortunately there is not yet a PPL licence to use the recordings. (Maybe in a months time they say) Sorry I can't give the website address, I'm not allowed to on this forum, but MCPS and ...

thanks very much, I'll look into that, Yes I imagine that once I've published and established the brand, I have some protection, but I want to make sure my idea is safe while I'm in the development stage, i.e. looking for publishers and /or collaborators. I registered it today, they are very helpful ...

Can I protect a title?
First of all I must say I'm happy to have found this forum, it looks very helpful. My question is about protecting my copyright in a title of a book, or more importantly a series of books. What I have in mind is a short catchphrase along the lines of "xxx for Dummies" or "Now that's what I call yyy ...
