Thank you Andy, will try this. yes they are paintings but they seem quite modern, though not very modern, perhaps 20-30 years old? They appear on numerous web sites without any reference to the artist, even on the sites you gave me. also, I sent you a pm, I hope you don't mind? Many thanks Learning

Unable to Identify the Artist

I could not find these images on wikimedia commons. I am more than happy to pay for using them but am not able to identify who the artist(...

Thank you so much Andy. That was very helpful. He still has not replied to me- will wait and see. Hope you don't mind me asking another question- there are images that I would like to use inside the book and these are not paintings but line drawings and the artist died hundreds of years ago too. The...

Dear AndyJ Thank you so much for your enlightening reply- I contacted the photographer and am waiting to hear back from him. I think he lives in Austria. There are a couple of other versions on the wikimedia page but he just says next to his version that it is higher resolution. I asked him if he is...

Thank you Andy for your reply. I think he is in Austria, but I don't see how to contact him. There are two other people who uploaded the image on the same page but his one is the highest resolution. Right under the image it says the following: "The official position taken by the Wikimedia Foundation...

Old Paintings on Book Covers

Hi

I would like to use an old painting (over 100 years old)
as the cover on a book and a few others (also artist over 100
years old) inside the book.

What process do I go about to verify that they are
in the public domain?

Thank you and sorry if it's a very basic question.
