Phonogram Right

Can someone please explain what a Phonogram Right is?

What is a Phonogram Right compared to a Copyright?

Where/When and on what should a Phonogram Right be used?

Unregistered Trademarks

First off, thank you for your useful information. You have helped me understand a tricky issue. Now, in response to one thing you mentioned above, that in "some jurisdictions (especially Common Law countries) offer protection for the business reputation or goodwill which attaches to unregistered tra...

Copyright a Logo or Trademark?

I am wanting to protect my logo; however, I have limited funds. Can I copyright a logo? I have read this at the Copyright Registry website: • A logo that includes artistic or design elements, (i.e. not just the name on its own), is legally regarded as being a work of artistic creation and therefore ...

Performance Royalties

Thank you Peter for your invaluable information. I hope you don't mind, but could I engage your expertise once more by asking another question? First off, let me explain my situation. I am in a group who have written/recorded/produced our own Album and Single. I will be selling these CDs by an onlin...

Just One Copyright registration?

This is a very interesting forum topic and I too have been trying to find some clear answers to this subject. I just wanted to clarify something. Are you guys saying that I only need one Copyright Registration for my song and that covers the composition, sound recording, performing, video recording,...

PPL/PRS/MCPS

I know that this was an old post, but if you guys are still around I'd love to hear your experiences with these royalty collection agencies. I am considering registering but have my doubts/concerns. I'd appreciated any advice/experience that you can give me on sorting out the pros/cons of registering.

Royalties: PPL/PRS

Can anyone help me sort out the pros and cons of joining PPL and PRS? I am unsure if I should register or not. I DO want to receive royalties but I DO NOT want my registration to deter venue owners from booking me (I have heard that small venues do not like to book registered PRS bands because it me...

Just as I figured

Thank you for your advice. I suspected that a Poor-Man's copyright wasn't very strong. It's just that with the amount of work I have under my belt, it's going to cost a pretty penny. If I do copyright an album (11 songs). Does the copyright then apply to each individual song on the album as well, or...

Poor-Man's Copyright

Does Poor-Man's Copyrighting stand up legally? I have over 100 songs written and recorded. I also don't have an unlimited budget. What is the most economical way of copyrighting my work. It is certainly the cheapest to send my work to myself through the Post; however, does this offer me adequate pro...

Studio Recordings

Can anyone clear this up for me? I have heard that when recording in a recording studio, the owner of the studio holds the copyrights all the recordings. Is this true? For example: I write a song and then I go down the street to my friend Joe who has a studio in his basement. I record my work in Joe...

Copyright Text on Merchandise

I want to create and sell merchandise with a slogan on it. I am aware that you can not copyright words/phrases/slogans. However, can I copyright a slogan which has a particular colour and font as part of the overall design? For example: say my slogan was "I like Cheese". Now I know that I can not co...
