Thanks, Nick. 2 more questions. The book is effectively self-published as I am doing almost all the work on it (bar designing and printing), but the council I work for is to be the 'publisher' as I have written the book as part of my work, and they are paying for designing, printing and those images...

Sorry AndyJ ... I am also wanting to add several extracts from three OS maps (either 1931 or an older one) to help place buildings I have referred to which are/were located along a river. Can I do that? And if so, is there a limit to the size I can put in? Plus, presumably I have to refer to it as "...

Sorry, me again (rather inevitably I suppose!) :-) I am planning to use the image shown here ... https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Diana_Dors_1968.jpg Now despite saying in the Licensing section of that webpage ... "attribution – You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the aut...

Hi AndyJ I am now at the point where I am about to send the book text, images, etc. for printing (at last!). I have a few questions about creating a the list of picture acknowledgements to go after the book's text. (I suppose I should really look at how other authors do it, but then would they neces...

Hi AndyJ. I knew I could rely on you to reply!

I will pursue the avenues you've suggested, and similarly for another one of Frances Day too.

Thanks very much

Use of 1956-57 magazine photo in a book

I have a photo of Diana Dors from an edition of Picturegoer from 1956-57 sometime, which I'd like to use in a book. Photographer unknown.

Can I do this, with just a credit?

If it's of any help, Picturegoer died as a publication in 1960 apparently.

Thanks.

I am writing a book ...

... and wishing to include old photos of the town I am writing about. Many are old photographs owned by people I know who are happy for me to use them. However, can I use these? Or is the original producer of the postcard still the owner? These are all 100+ year old shots, and none were produced by ...

Recording ourselves speaking the text of a 1945 broadcast

Hi all, I work for a public library. One of my colleagues wants to video a number of us speaking extracts of Richard Dimbleby's 1945 broadcast from Belsen which first went out on the BBC Home Service on 19th April 1945. No full transcript is available online, only the full broadcast. So my colleague...

Thanks again very much, Andy J (x 2)! As it's late :?, I'll just say that I'm familiar with the email address you gave at the bottom as it's the one I emailed on my mother's behalf and at the suggestion of the re-publishers. But I didn't get a reply from the firm at all, despite later trying another...

To AndyJ, if you're willing to continue ... So, forgive my confusion / slowness. If I followed what you've said in your posts correctly ... - if we decide to go ahead without checking that we don't need to seek reversions, or actually obtaining them, my mother may be liable because the publisher wou...

Thanks AndyJ very much for your time and efforts. They are very gratefully received here. My mum is very deaf and has an important operation to do with her deafness next Friday, so being able to answer questions about this at this time when she's got plenty else to be thinking about is very welcome....

Republishing

My mother is related by marriage to an artist who died in 1958, and who wrote two books which included her etchings of dogs, which were published in the 1930s. An executive editor from a major publisher in New York now wants to republish these books, and offered my mother $15,000 for the rights to r...
