I found someone use my copyrighted image on his Facebook without my permission. After reporting to Facebook, they asked me to provide "- A detailed description of each copyrighted work that you allege is being infringed" and "- An explanation of how you believe the reported content is infringing your copyright(s)". I have already provided the original work posted on my website and the Facebook post that using my image. So I'm not clear what else should be included in "A detailed description" and "an explanation" mentioned above to prove others infringed my copyright?

Hi Halie,
I imagine that in addition to the actual image, Facebook probably need a categorical statement to the effect that you took the image on such and such a date etc, and that you thus own the copyright. If you did not author the imge yourself, then provide an explanation for why you claim ownership of the copyright. As for the alleged infringement, you need to say that you did not give permission for the image to be copied either to the specific person, or in general terms (say, by applying a creative commons or similar licence to the image). You can acknowledge that the Facebook terms of use permit Facebook as a corporate body to use you image in certain ways, but these terms do not authorise unconnected third parties such as other Facebook users to appropriate your work, even if it is within the confines of the Facebook site.

If that doesn't work, try asking Facebook what they mean!
