Laser Engraved Image on Chopping Board
If I design an image of Darth Vader and laser engrave onto a chopping board am I in copy right infringement.

It depends what you base your image on. If you are a skilled artist who can draw the Darth Vader character from memory, perhaps after looking at several photographs of the character, then you shouldn't infringe anyone's copyright. There is no copyright in the character per se. However if you rely on just one photograph as your source you do run the risk of using a substantial part of that image within your design and this might amount to infringement. Whether the copyright owner was minded to do anything about such a situation is a separate matter.
