Unable to Identify the Artist

Post by Learning »

Dear Friends

I would like to use a couple of Christian images for the cover of a
religious booklet. I have tried to identify who the artists are but am not
able. I could not find these images on wikimedia commons. I am more than
happy to pay for using them but am not able to identify who the
artist(s) is/are. I found them on google images and they are
used extensively on many Christian websites without reference to
the artist.

Any ideas or advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you

Hi learning,
I assume that these are either drawings or paintings, since you mention not being able to identify the artists. Is there any indication of how old they might be, based on the style of artwork, colours etc? You could try using TinEye or Google image search to see if either can throw up any leads as to the identity of the artists. But failing that, and on the assumption that these are not very old images which might be out of copyright, your best bet might be to use the new Orphan Works diligent search methodology(pdf), which if it fails to uncover the artists' identity would put you in a good position to apply for a licence from the IPO.

Thank you Andy, will try this.

yes they are paintings but they seem quite modern, though
not very modern, perhaps 20-30 years old? They appear on
numerous web sites without any reference to the artist,
even on the sites you gave me.

also, I sent you a pm, I hope you don't mind?

Many thanks
