Hi,
I am an artist from Fife,Scotland and recently found an old poem written in 1822 by William Tennant. I found it on-line. It says printed for Archibald Constable & Co.Edinburgh; William Cockburn, Anstruther; and Hurst, Robinson, & Co. London. I am currently working on paintings to go with the poem.
I am wanting to have an evening where the poem is read aloud with images of my paintings being shown, an exhibition with the paintings and corresponding parts of the poem in an exhibition. Then ultimately have a book made of the poem with my images.
Am I allowed to do this?

Assuming it's the William Tennant born in Fife in 1784, and who died in 1848, even if the current longer copyright term of 70 years applied, that on his published works would have expired at the end of 1918. You are free to do whatever you wish with the text of the book, without any legal restriction whatsoever.
