Parody laws

Post by eve » Mon Nov 03, 2008 4:52 pm

Hello!
what are the laws concerning performing Musical parodies?
(famous songs, changed lyrics)
Do I need permissions or is it enough to give the original titles to venues for the PRS license?

Many thanks,
Evelyne

PRS licences as I understand are issued to the venue, so normally they would already be licenced or should sort this out if you contact them.

You may also want to check this - section 80 'derogatory treatment' http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts1988/uk ... _4#pt1-ch4 - Probably won't apply, but as you mention 'parody'...

that is already helpful to read the moral rights act...
I am interested in hearing precedent cases...French and Saunders did derogatory works I suppose, Parodies on Madonna and Britney that didn't really put them in a good light...
so- I wonder what the lines really are...

Best, Evelyne
