Newbie question RE:Creative Commons 2.0

This is very much a newbie question.
I appreciate having a place to go to ask this question.

I'm doing volunteer work for a Facebook group.
I was asked to modify a photo, and at the time I didn't think much of it as the photo was provided by them.
I did some research after I finished the project and found it is under a Creative Commons 2.0

Am I able to modify a photo for a post on Facebook licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.0?
If so, how would I provide appropriate credit on the photo that will no doubt be shared?

Hi Mauidan24 and welcome to the forum,

So long as the licence for the image doesn't have the ND (no derivatives) tag attached, then yes you can modify it. However it is important to correctly attribute the new image. Ideally you do this by embedding a link to the source image and the licence terms if you know how to do this. At the very least you should include text which gives the name of the author, the title of the work if it has one, the source and the same licence as the one attached to the original image. If you want to, you can also include the details of what changes you made and your own name etc. Obviously this can mean quite a lot of extra text which is why embedding the links is a good idea and keeps the attribution short.
