Fonts in Photoshop

Post by arteramma »

I was wondering on the legalities of using a font that is provided as part of a licensed software (photoshop). I used one of the fonts included in a design I made for text based t-shirts and got an infringement notice from my POD service. I just assumed that all fonts etc in such an expensive program as photoshop would be licensed to photoshop users for whatever commercial or non-commercial use they pleased??? Another user of the POD site has just posted that they had a design using photoshop's custom shapes withdrawn for copyright infringement also.

Although the fonts appear in Photoshop, they may not all be produced by Adobe. You will need to check who is the creator of the font(s) you wish to use and then see if you need a separate licence. It's all explained here together with a utility to find the creator of the font.
As a matter of interest what was the wording that your POD service used in their infringement notice? Were they asserting that there had been an infringement, or notifying you that a third party had notified them of an infringement. It may be that they have just issued a standard warning to cover themselves without any actual evidence of an infringement, as they become liable if they produce an infringing copy on your behalf.
